The Church of Christ

What is the Church of Christ?

The Church of Christ is a religious group (or set of local groups) that believes in following the teachings of Jesus Christ. We want to worship God and learn of Him through the teachings of Jesus (who was sent by God) and the apostles (men personally selected by Jesus to teach others).

We believe that the Bible is the perfect and divine message from God, so we attempt to study it carefully and closely follow its instructions and examples.

To follow some of those instructions, every Sunday we gather in congregations (or local churches) to sing songs worshiping God, to pray together, to listen to lessons from the Bible, and most importantly, to participate in communion - a special meal to remember Jesus. Most local churches also meet at least once in the middle of the week for more studying, singing, and praying.

We understand that the Bible teaches the importance of personal faith and baptism by immersion (dunking in water) as the way to be accepted by God and saved by Jesus. We see examples in the Bible that everyone can have a direct relationship with God through Jesus and that there is no need for a priest or clergy to come in between that relationship.

We have no centralized or governing authority other than Christ Jesus, because that is what we understand from the instructions and examples in the New Testament. Because of this, there is no person living today (below Jesus) with the authority to speak for the entire church or for all of the local churches. Every local congregation is independent and responsible to no other authority than Christ.

You will certainly find congregations with the name "Church of Christ" that follow different practices than what we present on this site. They have the absolute freedom to do so, but in the end, they will be judged by Jesus, and so will you and I. Let's all do our best to do what is right and give Him our best.

Everything on this website is simply an attempt to share our understanding of God's intent for the one church that was established by, and that belongs to, Jesus Christ.
